The General Services Administration (GSA), an independent agency of the United States government. Though technically part of the Executive Branch, as an independent agency, GSA operates independent of presidential control, and the President has limitations on power to oversee / manage this agency.
GSA was create in 1949. It is designed to help federal agencies with many of their basic needs, such as product supplies, communications equipment for offices, transportation, technology and websites, property management, and other similar functions.
The GSA oversees the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS), the Public Buildings Service (PBS), and offices such as the Office of Government-wide Policy, the Office of Small Business Utilization, and the Office of Mission Assurance. GSA also oversees initiatives including FedRAMP, Cloud.gov, the USAGov platform (e.g., USA.gov, GobiernoUSA.gov, and Kids.gov), Data.gov, Performance.gov, and Challenge.gov.
