Why Will Google Not Bid On Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) Cloud Contract?
Why Will Google Not Pursue JEDI? Company Will Not Did For Pentagon's $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud contract (JEDI) Google's decision to not bid for the Pentagon's $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud contract known as JEDI has brought much discussion. Two of the most talked about threads have been: 1) the idea that perhaps there was more to Google's decision than meets the eye, and 2) the hypocrisy of the company saying a Pentagon contract may violate Google's values when the company has had no problem helping the Communist Chinese government use technology to suppress speech and take other adverse actions. What do you think? Is Google being hypocritical? Could they know in advance of bidding that they were not going to win, so they use not bidding as a public relations ploy. Discuss here.

How Will The Midterm Elections Impact Budget Negotiations In December 2018?
The "minibus" appropriations, or spending bill, that was passed by Congress and is expected to be signed by President Trump, avoids a government shutdown for the moment. However, Congress must revisit the federal budget in December, after the midterm elections. The results of the election should have a significant impact on how members of Congress vote, and which party has more political leverage. How do you think the election will impact budget negotiations in December? Do you think a government shutdown is more or less likely if the Democrats take control of the U.S. House? For context, please read: No Government Shutdown: Congress Passes Minibus Spending Bill To Keep Government Running Until December

Is the Federal Budget Deficit A Problem?
On Monday, September 10, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its Monthly Budget Review for August, which show the status of the federal budget deficit. The report says that the federal budget deficit through the first 11 months of fiscal 2018 was $895 billion, a $222 billion (approximately 33%) increase over the same period in 2017. The U.S. Treasury Department will release its report in September. The numbers bolster previous arguments that future budget deficits could exceed $1 trillion until 2022. This projection does not include what happens if spending increases, the economy slows and generates less tax revenue, or other factors. However, the question is: Is the federal budget deficit a problem? If so, how much of a problem? If not, why not? And what do foresee will be the impact to government contractors (if any), and when?

New York began its fiscal year on April 1, Texas begins its fiscal year on Sept. 1 and Alabama and Michigan begin theirs on Oct. 1. As of August 8, 50 states have enacted budgets for FY 2019. Sixteen of those states enacted a biennial budget during their 2017 legislative session.

Mergers and Acquisitions
There are times when companies merge, or government contractors acquire other companies, to improve their competitiveness in the industry. In some cases, these mergers and acquisitions are viewed positively and other times negatively. The government also has the ability to block mergers or acquisitions in certain circumstances. This section is to discuss M&A activity in the govcon space, and whether or not government approval or rejection of such activity was justified.
